Bogart

Hi everybody, let me introduce myself, my real name is Antonino Matteliano (you can call me Tony, it's easier :) ). I worked for years as a Licensed Television repair Technician, then opened a Novelty Shop. After the store was discontinued I went to work for a Non Profit Organization as a Maintenance Supervisor, I worked at that profession for 11 years.

In January 1997 ( Me and my familys year from hell ) I was diagnosed with " Stage 1" Squamouse Cell Carcinoma of the Lung. I underwent surgery on February 11, 1997. The Procedure done was an an "upper Lobectomy of the right lung" They removed 1/4 of my lung. The tumor was found when I went to apply for a Hypertension Research program. The program called for a lung x ray before starting the program. I remember being put out by this and complaining about having to take an X Ray when I had taken one the year before. I never had any symptons telling me something was wrong, not a one. (somebody upstairs was watching over me for sure.) I must say, this experience was and is something I wish on no one. It took like 10 months for me to recover, but then, when I worked in the yard in the spring and summer, I was losing my breath, and really sucking in air each time I physicaly exerted myself.

The doctors felt I had conditioned my body to this by not trying to get some walking in and so forth during recovery. I weighed 260 lbs before the operation and gained 26 lbs during recovery ( to much for me to handle). I did not mention that 2 weeks before the operation, I quit smoking, Cold Turkey. Well since then, and after a P.E.T. Scan ( Positron Emission Tomography ) in February of 1998, they have found me to be Cancer free. Of course I will be watched and tested periodically.

I am 62 years old, retired now. As I get my strength and body back in shape I will be seeking some kind of part time work. I am walking at least 1 mile a day and hope to get that up to 2 miles a day. I also am on a low/no/fat Diet and doing very well with it. I am losing weight. If any one has any questions they are welcome to E Mail me at antone@buffnet.net, use all lower case letters.
