Gunner

Gunner is L. Ernie Moll, age 72, retired (1987) art professor living in Madison Wisconsin, 2 married daughters living in the Bay Area, California, 2 grandchildren 13, 16. Taught sculpture at Univ. of Wis. for 25 years. Enjoy computers and all electronic toys. Had and sold an RV, have a Kawasaki 650 murdercycle, a very old house overlooking Lake Monona, great friends, especially Susan, my SO at this point.

Laparotomy confirmed stage 4 lymphoma in 1982, spleen removed, had chemo, chlorambucil, for a year and repetition of biopsies, liver, bone marrow, etc, all negative.

Now, 1997, diagnosed with early colon cancer, prostate cancer and recurrence of lymphoma. Sep. 30 had surgery to remove most of my colon. Complication that delayed recovery turned out to be fluid accumulation in abdomen that interfered with small intestine activity. Spent 31 days in hospital on IV until Oct. 25, discharged on the 30th. Solid food tasted really good! No further treatment for colon cancer required.

Dec 3, 1997,  will begin medication to suppress testosterone, after 6 weeks will begin radiation treatment of prostate.

Lymphoma is characterized as 'indolent,' so is not a great concern at this time. I am hopeful for some more good years--they call it "living with cancer."

I've been active in a group, Make Today Count, since 1983. MTC, founded in 1974, is the oldest support group in the nation. Attracted national attention at the time (Life magazine, 60 Minutes, etc) because cancer was still in the closet. In its heyday there were 180 chapters, one in Germany, one in Australia. The national office was allowed to fade, and without its support many chapters, likewise. For past 10 years I have been doing a paper newsletter for Madison chapter, and recently started putting some of the stuff from it on our website, http://userpages.itis.com/lemoll/index.html.
