JoyJoy

Hi. My name is JoyJoy or really Betsy Lampley. Joy comes from the 1st three letters of my middle name. The pic shows me waiting for dinner at Bahama Breeze - a long wait - 1 hour. That was this summer - I will send one with my hair all straight & standing straight up on my head - quite new for me - but would have been perfect for my chemo! That's my new fall look.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1990, had surgery & then chemo. I don't know what kind. As far as I was concerned it didn't matter if it worked, which it did. Thankfully I did not lose my hair, but could not have perms. I was so grateful not to lose my hair that I could have cared less about perms! When the chemo was finished, I had reconstructive surgery - a real ordeal - but I would do it again. I then volunteered for a year to work with Reach for Recovery, visiting mastectomy patients. After 5 years my oncologist said I was a cure, but continued to check me for another 4 years. Then in 1999, he released me from his care saying he didn't think I would have any more problems. With that I was free - and didn't even get to see that beautiful head of bushy hair grow back out! (Sorta like Kotter on Welcome Back, Kotter!) To tell you a little about me, I like to read, play the piano, & tutor International people in English. (I used to be a teacher...) On a less positive note (I think), I recovered from cancer, but am now diabetic(type 2 non insulin) & so far doing fine. I am also Manic-Depressive, stable now for some time (don't know how long that is). I can assure you it is something you don't want to be, but I am fortunate that it is stable now. I think the right doctor found the right medicine....? Will be back on line to chat - Have not forgotten you. Take care, all of you, and God Bless.
