Scott Johnson from Des Moines, Iowa, born 2 May, 1967, grew up inBolingbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He has 4 brothers and 1 sister. SJ went to Drake University for Pharmacy in 1985. While there he studied harpsichord and Russian. Other interests are music (especially Bach), motorcycles (has a 1994 Honda CBR 600 F2)and sports. In May of 1995, he was diagnosed with Testicular cancer with metastasis to the peritoneal lymph nodes. After the initial surgey, the standard chemo protocol was instituted four days later. After finishing chemo, and time to recuperate, in January 1996 a peritoneal lymph node dissection was done, after which he was declared "cancer free". The chemo worked very well on the cancer; however, it was rough on the kidneys. Doctors now monitor kidney function closely. He is still has monthly visits with his oncologist for chest x-ray and blood work. SJ credits family, friends, and his faith in God for his recovery. PMA is a must, SJ relates"…when I was at my sickest, at the end of each day, my mom and I could always reflect back upon the day, and pick something positive out of it, and rejoice in that." Work has played an important part in his recovery as well, made SJ feel normal once again. He is a research pharmacist in veterinary medicine. Since SJ has been on irc #cancer-survivors, he has been adopted as newts' little brother, (Jaye) malamute's son, and grisabell's husband. This bubbly lad is like breath of fresh air.
